Hi! I am a National Board Certified Professional Teacher, blogger, academic coach, curriculum designer, and technology integrator with 30 years of experience. Middle School is home to me, but I am certified to teach 4-8 in all subjects with ESL and GT certification and grades 6-12 in English Language Arts.
My teaching style has always been about students being actively engaged and taking ownership in the learning process. My class runs on collaborative learning experiences, hands-on workshop writing lessons, technology integrated units, and critical thinking activities to foster independent and higher-level learning. All of this takes place in a community of learners style classroom established from day one.
I have been a presenter at state and national conferences and served as a teacher mentor for colleagues and student teachers for many years. I am the owner of MBC Academic Coaching and work as a freelance writer and photographer. I reported on the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 2004 from Alaska for the Houston Chronicle and have been published in online and print magazines.
I am Mom to adult sons, Addison and Taylor, and one 130 lb American Bulldog named Draco. My greatest passion is traveling and seeking out new adventures. The wanderlust began years ago when I was 7, when my family traveled to and lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Adrian, who allows me to drag him around the world in search of good food, great wine, and the perfect photo op.
